Short Breaks for Children with Special Needs

Families with disabled children told the UK government their number one priority is regular and reliable short breaks from caring. In response, Aiming High funding has been allocated which has created a great opportunity, within a set timeframe, to implement new short break schemes.

My name is Steve Buterworth and I am the parent of a teenager with a severe learning disability and an experienced consultant in short break services. I've worked successfully with many different organisations to increase their effectiveness in the planing and timely delivery of all forms of short breaks, including:

• Clubs and activities, scheduled after school-hours and at weekends.
• All types of indoor and outdoor sports.
• School holiday schemes allowing families one or more days break from caring.
